Christmas Puppet Craft
Creating Christmas Puppets
That brown paper bag isn’t what it used to be. Now it’s
also a part of a fun craft item. Using those small bags we always carried our
lunch in can make some great Christmas puppets for their school Christmas play.
Everyone will need a paper bag of course. They will also
need pieces of felt, washable markers, glue stick, cotton balls and pipe
cleaners to make these little puppets.
Using the paper bag show the kids how to place their hand
in the bag so that the bottom or folded area of the bag can be used as a
puppet. Be sure they know that it will the puppets mouth when they work their
hand correctly in the bag.
Now let them construct their puppets. They can use markers
to make a Santa Clause or elf face. Even Rudolph can be made into a puppet with
a paper bag.
Just make sure you don’t have more of Santa Clause then you
do of the elves.
If they are making a Santa have them glue cotton balls on
the bag for Santa’s beard. They can attach black felt to look like Santa’s belt
and color the bottom of the bag red for his pants. Attach a red piece of felt
cut into a triangle to the back of the puppet for Santa’s hat. Don’t for the
white cotton ball on the end of the hat.
Elves are pretty easy too. Make their face then attach
green felt cut into a triangle for their hat. Add pipe cleaners to the side of
the bag for arms. Cover the bottom of the bag with green felt or let the
children color it with a green crayon.
Reindeer can be a little trickier. Make the face then add
pipe cleaners to make their horns. Glue short pieces of pipe cleaner to the
longer pieces to make the horns look more authentic. Be sure they add some red
felt for their collar and add a bell to the middle of the felt with glue.
Now they have puppets to put on the perfect Christmas
play. Let them play and have fun and enjoy a little Christmas magic of their
own.
