Preschool Education - Music

Teach With Music

How many times have you heard a song that you can’t get out of your head?  You run around all day singing or humming that song until it drives you crazy.  Kids are no exception.  Preschoolers have great memories and love to perform so for them singing is easy and fun.

Remember the song “Hokey Pokey”?  How much fun did we have with this song?  This is a great song for preschoolers to learn different body parts and also their right from their left.  Plus is helps with some of that built up energy they seem to have without any trouble at all.

Songs such as “10 Little Indians” and “Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” are great songs to help little ones learn to count.  Before you know it they will be counting to 10 without even realizing they are doing it.

How about teaching them some hand and eye coordination?  With songs like “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” this can be easily accomplished and the kids will love the songs.  They are easy to remember and fun to sing and play.

Teach young children their ABC’s with the ABC song.  This catchy tune has been around forever and many children have learned their ABC by just repeating this song over and over again.

A good memory song is “Row, Row, Row Your Boat.”  It’s a very simple song that has the same tune over and over again.  By doing it in rounds your preschoolers learn to memorize so when it’s their turn they can sing it all on their own to make the round work.

Make up words to different songs that are catchy and will draw small children in.  You can teach children colors, foods, clothing pieces and just about anything you want with a song.  Who cares if it’s a real song or one you made up - the object is to teach the children while they are having a fun time.  It’s a simple and easy way to learn without them even knowing it.
