Read and Discuss Rumpelstiltskin

A great book to read to any preschooler is the story of Rumpelstiltskin.  This wonderful fairy tale was written by the Brothers Grim and has been read to many a child over many a year.

Kids really like the story of this fairy tale.  It captures their attention and keeps them interested from beginning to end. 

There are many places where you can find a copy of this book and it can be found in many forms. Start at the local library.  See if they have a copy that will fit your preschoolers.  It should be in words they understand and with pictures.  Pictures will give them an idea of how the characters look and what the story is trying to tell them.    

As your read to your preschoolers ask them what they think about the story.  Discussion can be a great for your preschoolers to learn and understand.  Don’t be afraid to stop in the middle of a page to answer any questions they may have for you too.  This type of fairy tale is sure to make their minds wonder and there are sure to be many questions.  Also don’t be concerned if you have to look up answers.  It’s another learning tool for your children.     

Look online for coloring pages that you can print out and have the kids color once the story is over.  Make it a Rumpelstiltskin day in your classroom.  Let them hang the pictures in the room for a few days to keep it fresh in their mind.  Then send the pictures home so they can tell their families the story.   

Reading the story of Rumpelstiltskin is something that can bring your preschoolers together not only to learn but to just plain enjoy.  It is a fairy tale that has brought many together while giving them some fantasy to think about.  Try it with your preschoolers and see what an enjoyable time is had by all including you.
