Valentine’s Day Party Dress Up

All children love to dress up and preschoolers are no exception. When it comes to their Valentine’s Day party you can help them feel a little special with a few different dress up items.

For the girls, purchase candy necklaces or bracelets. These can be found in your local dollar store and are relatively inexpensive.  Place them around their necks or wrist when they first come into the classroom in the morning.  Make them feel special when you add their jewelry to their Valentine’s Day outfit. Remind them not to eat the candy until the party is over so they look all prettied up for the entire party.  On their way home they can nibble away and remember the good time they had earlier.

Boys love whistles.  Purchase those wonderful candy whistles to hand out to them.  Again these are very inexpensive and can be purchased at about any type of store.  Give them to the boys when they first arrive.  Tell them they are the grand marshals of the Valentine’s Day party.  Make sure they know not to blow their whistle until the party is over.  They don’t want to distract from all the fun.  When they head home they can whistle to their heart’s content while enjoying their sweet tasty surprise.

Making children feel special on Valentine’s Day is what it’s all about.  Helping them to look special by dressing them for the occasion is a great way to make their party one they will always remember.

Paint a Valentine’s Day Party Tablecloth

It’s pretty much a given that you will be having a party for all those preschoolers for Valentine’s Day.  Having a table prepared with all the goodies is important too.  Let the kids make the tablecloth for the party.  It’s pretty easy, they will definitely have fun and you won’t have to worry about cleaning up any of those messy spills on a good table.

Use a white sheet for the cloth.  If the table isn’t too large a twin bed sheet or a big piece of butcher paper will do.  Measure the table to make sure the sheet or paper is a proper fit.

Place the sheet on a flat surface and be sure to cover the children with an old shirt so they don’t paint themselves.  Using valentine themed stencils and paint let them go to town.  Show them how to hold the stencils on the sheet and paint the inside to make their design. They can paint hearts or cupids with arrows.  If you tape the stencils to the sheet they can even spell out Happy Valentine’s Day.

Show them how to attach the ribbon around the edges of sheet.  All red or all pink is really cute but if they want to mix it up a bit have them do two sides in pink and the other two sides in red.  By using a glue stick it can be pretty easy for them to add the trim to their tablecloth.

Once everything has dried place the tablecloth on a table where everyone can see it.  Let them know you are proud of their creation and will be pleased to place all their goodies on their masterpiece during the party.

Valentine’s Day Game Prizes with a Twist

If you’re playing games at your preschool Valentine’s Day party then prizes are a must.  You don’t want to give them candy or cookies because they will more than likely be receiving these types of treats already.  Coloring books, crayons, puzzles and toys can be a lot of fun, but they get those at most of the parties they go too.  Try something a little different with your preschoolers at this year’s party.

Make paper heart coupons.  Children love to be helpful.  They also enjoy being recognized.  Paper heart coupons can help do both of those things.  They can also help you with some of your classroom chores.

Make the hearts out of red and pink construction paper.  Inside each heart write something that the child can help with in the classroom.  For instance, you may need someone to pass out papers or hand out books.  Maybe you would like some help with giving out snacks or other items.  These are the types of things to place inside the hearts.

You can go even further and maybe make some that read “King or Queen” for a Day.”  Let them do all the little chores.  Have them set with you during times of teaching and playing.  Make them special for just one day.

There are all types of things you can place inside each heart to make a child feel special.  Once you are ready to hand out the prizes place the folded hearts in a hat and allow them to choose one if they are the winner of the game.  This will also make them feel special and give them a sense of achievement.

Giving prizes at a Valentine’s Day party for preschoolers doesn’t have to be extravagant.  As long as it makes them feel special, not only on Valentine’s Day but other days of the year – that’s what really matters.
